The Moody Blues成軍於六十年代初期，歷史地位於近代英倫入侵與前衛搖滾之間，在七十年代初期商業與樂評都達到高峰，而到現今都持續活動著。他們的音樂善於利用先進錄音室設備創造出繁複的效果（弦樂、鍵盤、音效）；運用各樣嚴肅的主題概念來推展其理念（反戰、環保、人性）。現在的樂團少有如他們般強調詩詞與旋律同時進行的"搖滾音樂"，他們對社會的呼籲由現代觀點來看也或許略嫌誇張，但我們還是可以聽聽豐富的素材、美妙的旋律、詩化的意境，那些跟現在時尚味道不大相同的古老音樂。 
Days of the future passed是Moody Blues第二張專輯，不同於早期R&B曲風，也是事業開始衝刺之始。1967年新東家Decca唱片公司投資了一筆金錢讓他們能做更多元化的嘗試，終於在製作人Tony Clark與Peter Knight與團員的腦力激盪下完成了以一日的時間順序為曲目編排的概念專輯。從起頭的"The Day Begins"到結束的"The Night"七首歌，每首歌代表各個時辰、都有不同韻味。曲間的弦樂串場是由The London Festival Orchestra擔綱，Peter Knight負責作曲與指揮。
終曲The Night，副標題叫Nights In White Satin是Moody Blues流傳後世的抒情單曲，曾得到排行榜第二名。前二十秒管絃樂點出夜晚情境，隨後由樂團帶入樂曲主題，弦樂成為輔助。兩分二十秒後又由清亮的笛音滑入後三分鐘的重複部份，並加入大合唱。最後兩分鐘主唱Justin由高亢轉為低沈的嗓音，與氣勢雄偉至低回不已的管絃音色相得益彰。最後在鑼鼓聲中結束了淒冷美麗的七分二十四秒，並且結束了整張專輯。
這首歌最能代表本團的典型風格：紓緩、悲傷、悠遠的中版搖滾，配合恰到好處的弦樂主導或點綴，皆值得我們細細品味。
